Growing up in "the Keys", on Grassy Key, just north of Marathon, with my Dad and Uncles all being fishermen of some type, it is easy to say that I spent all my time (other than school) on someone's boat, some where. Of all the things I learned, one that I have always remembered, is how important it is to have a boat that, at the end of the day, will bring you home!
It soon became apparent that I had a natrual talent for fixing things. So I got stuck with fixing rather than fishing the boats. As I grew up and wanted to be on my own I did a three year apprenticeship at Bayles Boat Yard. I worked under a 75 year old master carpenter who did nothing but build wooden boats all his life. During the wars he built Minesweepers for the Navy. From him I learned what it meant to be able to take pride and satisfaction from a job well done.
After building my own 30' gaff rigged cutter, I sailed her for years and ended up in St. Petersburg. I built high tech racing boats, working for Kiwi Yacht, and on many fast maxi sailboats. I also did the commissioning for the Hanse Yachts Performance Sail imported from Germany.
I also spent time working for Morgan Yachts, Nautical Development, Endeavour Yachts, and the Windships 105. Subsequently opening Accelerated Yacht Services to be able to work one on one with customers. Increased business to two service trucks running all the time with monthly contracts from owners around the world - Austria, Switzerland, England, Germany and various places throughout the States. Continued all Certifications and Technological updates - Electronics, Woodworking, Installation of Generators, Air Conditioning Units, Watermakers, Repowering and more. In short, I know a boat from inside out. Customers kept asking me about what boats to buy so now I have my Florida Yacht Sales License with David Erdman Yachts, LLC. I have known David since I rebuilt his Goetz 40 cold molded racing sailboat back in the 90's.
